  • Mel Gibson's Apology Accepted -- For Now
Faced with a storm of criticism for anti-Semitic remarks during a DUI arrest, actor Mel Gibson apologized a second time and said he was prepared to meet with Jewish leaders. After condemning Gibson’s first apology as “unremorseful and insufficient,” ADL National Director Abraham H. Foxman accepted the second, but with a caveat. “I’m still skeptical,” said Foxman. “These are still words from his handlers - the same people who brought you the first statement that didn’t acknowledge his anti-Semitism.”  More >>

    Op-Eds:
Proportionality in the War in Lebanon (Haaretz)
Israel's northern cities and towns have continuously been under threat of missile attacks, especially as Hezbollah amassed an arsenal in the years since Israel left southern Lebanon. If not dealt with by Israel, Hezbollah would have evolved into a far greater threat to the fundamental security of Israel.

Human Rights Watch should be viewed for what it is, at least when it comes to the struggle in the Middle East that may determine not only the future of the State of Israel but of mankind itself: irrelevant or immoral.

Iraq War: Is it Good for Jews, and Israel? (Moment Magazine)
It depends on how the war turns out. It depends on how the growing Shiite threat to Israel and the West is handled. It depends on whether there is a serious effort to sustain forces of democracy and reform in the region.
