U.S.-India Relations to Grow Closer on Back of Landmark Nuclear Accord

(2006-09-15) Long anticipated high-level cooperation between the worlds most
powerful democracy and the worlds most populous democracy is coming to
fruition. In June, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved the United
States and India Nuclear Cooperation Promotion Act of 2006 in a 16 to 2 vote.
The House of Representatives already had overwhelmingly passed one version of
the deal in a 359 to 68 vote. The full Senate is expected to vote on it
before the October 6 recess.

#604 Hiding Behind Israel

(2006-09-19) The Bush administration has linked Iran and the Arab-Israel
conflict whereby progress in the peace process is expected to generate the
support of Arab moderates and the Europeans for action on Iran. They are all
hiding behind the peace process to avoid facing their lack of resolve to deal

#605 Leaving Israel Out

(2006-09-20) It is not Israel that prevents the evolution of a more peaceful
Middle East or even the establishment of a Palestinian State. It is
Palestinian behavior and the President quite rightly focused his attention on
that point and left Israel out in his speech to the UN yesterday. Read the

#606 The President at the UN and the Pope in Trouble

(2006-09-21) In his recent speech to the UN, President Bush was right that
the turmoil in the Middle East was there and doing violence long before we
were prepared to recognize it. The remedy is ever increasing doses of
openness to the world and continuing self-confidence by those of us who
believe in give-and-take in the political, social and spiritual worlds. Read
