Presbyterians Overturn Israel Divestment
At a meeting of the Presbyterian Church (USA)’s General Assembly in Birmingham, Alabama, delegates voted overwhelmingly to overturn a 2004 resolution targeting Israel for divestment. “We appreciate the church’s acknowledgement that the unbalanced 2004 overture caused 'hurt and misunderstanding among many members of the Jewish community and within our Presbyterian communion,'” said Abraham H. Israel’s MDA Accepted as Full Member of the International Red Cross
ADL welcomed the “long overdue” acceptance of Israel's emergency medical service, Magen David Adom, as a full member in the International Committee of the Red Cross. Since 1949, MDA was kept out of the ICRC on the basis that it would not use the accepted symbols the Red Cross or the Red Crescent. More >>

- U.S. Delegation Studies Israel’s Security Procedures
A US law-enforcement delegation in Israel shared experiences and benefited from Israel's knowledge, as part of an ADL mission. During their visit, the group, which included police chiefs and representatives from the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, studied how Israeli officials perform security procedures at airports and border crossings, how they treat mass casualties and establish command and control after terrorist attacks.

- Jewish Groups Recommend Air Force Training on Religion
ADL and other leading national Jewish organizations joined in submitting a series of recommendations to the U.S. Air Force. Several families in St. Louis were targeted by threatening letters and crude homemade bombs made from soda bottles. Four letters were left on cars belonging to Jews and Catholics in the University City neighborhood, which has four synagogues.
