Putin Urged To Investigate Moscow Synagogue Attack

ADL called on the Russian government to launch an immediate investigation into the brazen daylight attack at the Chabad Bronnaya synagogue in downtown Moscow, in which at least eight worshippers were wounded by a knife-wielding assailant, several seriously. Central Moscow Police arrested one man in connection with the attack inside the synagogue. According to reports, the assailant had a shaved head and was heard shouting Nazi slogans and “I will kill Jews” as he carried out the assaults.   More>>

    In observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday, ADL took part in marches, events and rallies across the country commemorating the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In Atlanta, 75 students from eight Metro-Atlanta high schools joined for the ADL Southeast Region Youth Leadership Conference to Stop Hate, a daylong anti-bias program. The League also played a prominent role in celebrations in Chicago, Boston, St. Louis and other cities.

  • Anti-Semitism Unabated in Muslim/Arab Media, Society
    Anti-Semitism is widespread throughout the Arab and Muslim world, manifested in many segments of society. A new ADL report looks at selected anti-Semitic expressions in the Arab and Muslim world in the second half of 2005. The report details how terrorist attacks in London, Egypt, Jordan and elsewhere prompted many newspapers to question whether Israel and its Mossad agents were involved.  More>>

  • Pat Robertson Apologizes To Sharon Family
    Televangelist Pat Robertson apologized to the family of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon for suggesting in a broadcast of The 700 Club that Sharon's stroke was punishment by God for his decision to disengage from Gaza. ADL had condemned Robertson’s earlier remarks as “un-Christian and a perversion of religion.”

  • In Historic First, U.N. To Commemorate Holocaust
    A delegation of ADL leaders will join with others in the American Jewish community for a ceremony at the United Nations commemorating the first International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27. The historic worldwide commemoration is being organized by the U.N. in consultation with the American Jewish community and the Israeli Mission to the U.N. 


  • Maryland: Vandals Strike at Churches and Schools
    Less than two weeks after three menorahs were vandalized in Montgomery County, Maryland, vandals struck again in early January, spray-painting swastikas and racial slurs on area churches and schools. Although it was unclear whether the incidents were related, police were not ruling out the possibility and investigating all the incidents as hate crimes. ADL urged authorities to work with the community “to send a strong and decisive message to the vandals that there is no place for hate or bigotry of any kind in Montgomery County.”


  • California: Award Offered in Hate Crime
    San Francisco authorities joined with ADL officials in asking for the public’s help in identifying as many as four men involved an alleged anti-Jewish hate crime attack on two men.

    Article on Architecture of Israel’s Fence Skewed 1/4/06
    Under the guise of an article on architectural theory, Nicholai Ouroussoff launches an assault on Israel's security fence ("A Line in the Sand," New York Times, Jan. 1).
