Dismantle the U.N.’s Palestinian Infrastructure

There is good reason to believe that Secretary General Kofi Annan's efforts to reform the United Nations will aid the goal of securing fairer treatment for Israel in the world body. Nevertheless, there are days when U.N. gives the impression of being stuck in a time warp where "Zionism is racism" and Israel is the world's greatest offender. In an op-ed published in the New York Sun, Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director suggests the reason for that is institutional: There is a structural bias favoring the Palestinians that is embedded in the system. More>>

  • Falwell Urged To Retract Call to “Vote Christian”
    The Reverend Jerry Falwell was strongly criticized for his recent appeal to his constituency to "vote Christian in 2008.” The League urged him to retract his "divisive and un-American" call to action.

  • Dobson Compares Stem-Cell Research to Nazi Experiments
    In a Focus on the Family radio broadcast, the religious organization’s founder and chairman, Dr. James C. Dobson, compared embryonic stem-cell research to the medical experiments carried out by Nazi doctors during the Holocaust. In a letter to Dobson, ADL said there is no legitimate comparison between stem-cell research, which seeks to find a cure for disease and to counter human suffering, and the perversion of science represented by the actions of Nazi doctors.

  • Dutch Action Sought Against Internet Video Satirizing the Holocaust
    ADL has urged the Dutch government to take swift action against a video on a Dutch Web site. Titled "Housewitz," it presents the Auschwitz concentration camp as the venue for a house music party. Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director and a Holocaust survivor, said that the video "directly insults the Jewish people and denigrates the memory of the six million Jews and others who perished at the hands of the Nazis."

  • Belafonte Hits Sour Note With Nazi Imagery
    Harry Belafonte's statement that "Hitler had a lot of Jews high up in the hierarchy of the Third Reich," was called "ignorant and offensive.” The League urged the singer to apologize.

  • Animal Rights Group Should Stop Using Holocaust Imagery
    ADL called on the National Primate Research Exhibition Hall to stop comparing the abusive treatment of animals to the suffering of millions during the Holocaust.

  • Catholic School Educators Travel to Israel for “Bearing Witness”
    Thirty educators from Catholic schools across the country traveled to Israel as part of an advance course of study on anti-Semitism and the Holocaust through the League’s acclaimed study program, Bearing Witness Advanced: Anti-Semitism, The Holocaust & Contemporary Issues.

    ADL and the retailing giant Abercrombie & Fitch have joined forces in the battle against prejudice with a partnership that will bring the League’s A CAMPUS OF DIFFERENCE™ anti-bias diversity training to college campuses across the United States. Washington University in St. Louis is the first of five colleges to have committed to bring the highly acclaimed anti-bias workshop programs to their institutions this fall.

  • ADL Granted DPI Status By U.N. Information Department
    The League was approved as an NGO associated with the United Nations Department of Public Information (DPI). As such, ADL can attend all open meetings of the UN bodies as an observer, and can attend NGO briefings organized by the Department, featuring UN officials, Government delegates, and other experts. ADL is expected to keep the DPI/NGO Section informed of its activities related to the U.N. and send relevant publications and other materials.


  • ADL's Peace And Diversity Academy In The News
    The Peace and Diversity Academy, a New York City public high school and the first in the country to base its scholastic curriculum in part on its work with the Anti-Defamation League's A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE ® Institute, was featured in a front page story in the New York Times.

  • Prosecutor Urged To Reconsider Case Against Anti-Immigration Activist
    ADL’s Arizona Office urged the Maricopa County Attorney to reconsider his decision not to prosecute Patrick Haab, an anti-immigration activist who held seven illegal immigrants at gunpoint. The League said the decision, “sets a dangerous precedent and could set the stage for increasing anti-Hispanic violence and civil rights violations.”
