Radicalized Palestinian Christian Group Pushes Divestment

The recent effort by various mainline Protestant denominations to adopt a policy of divestment against companies doing business with Israel has been pushed from behind the scenes by a radicalized Jerusalem-based Palestinian Christian group. More>>

Presbyterian Church Issues Call To Divest
The Presbyterian Church USA’s Responsibility Through Investment Committee announced the targeting of four American companies for shareholder action leading toward divestment as part of its efforts to target companies doing business with Israel. ADL called the move “outrageous and biased” and noted that church leadership was “out of sync with the people in the pews.”  More>>

In remarks broadcast on The 700 Club, Robertson sharply criticized the decision to withdraw from Gaza, saying that, "God says, 'I am going to judge the nations who have parted my land.' He said, 'I am going to bring judgment against them.'"

The many caricatures published in these newspapers provided a variety of perspectives of Israel's historic step. They ranged from positive depictions of the departure of the Gaza settlers, to anti-Semitic conspiracy theories of Israel's motivations.

    ADL urged the Catholic Church in Poland to bar Father Henryk Jankowski, a vitriolic anti-Semite, from further public preaching following anti-Jewish remarks he made at a rally on August 14 to mark the 25th anniversary of the "Solidarity" trade union.

    ADL urged the Dutch government to take swift action against a video on a Dutch Web site which degrades the Holocaust. Billed as "Housewitz," the video, directed by a Dutch student and available on a Dutch satirical Web site, presents the Auschwitz concentration camp as the venue for a house music party.

  • ADL Experts Brief National Safe and Drug-Free Schools Conference
    In mid-August, ADL Washington Counsel Michael Lieberman and New England Region Education Director Phil Fogelman represented the League at the 2005 National Conference for the Department of Education’s Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools (SADF) in Washington, D.C. Their presentations included a status report on juvenile hate crime and programs to confront youthful hate crime offenders.


  • Latino-Jewish Roundtable Hosts Immigration Discussion
    The Mexican Consul General and the ADL Pacific Southwest Region Latino-Jewish Roundtable hosted a panel discussion, “Challenges Related to Immigration” on August 23. The consul generals of Mexico, Nicaragua, and Honduras joined ADL Regional Director Amanda Susskind for a discussion on immigration policy, border security and vigilantism moderated by The Hon. Bruce J. Einhorn, Senior U.S. Immigration Judge for Los Angeles and Immediate Past Board Chair of the ADL Pacific Southwest Region.
