Synagogue Safety

Synagogue safety is crucial during the high holidays

Hate crimes are no longer carried out by a few ignorant teens with spray paint. Those who target synagogues and other Jewish facilities are now more cunning, more calculated and much more dangerous.

Not only have bomb threats become more prevalent, but today congregation members are at risk if a computer hacker breaks into a server where he can collect names and addresses of potential victims. The bottom line is that Jewish institutions need to be more alert and more aware than ever before.

Every year before Rosh Hashanah, ADL sends thousands of multimedia security toolkits to Jewish institutions across the country. In it we teach how to create and implement a security plan to protect against terrorism in the real world as well as in cyberspace.

In each package ADL provides valuable information such as:

Protecting Your Jewish Institutions manual
  • How to make your facility less vulnerable to attack
  • How to implement physical and technological security measures
  • Realistic video of scenarios any Jewish organization might face
  • What to do after an incident, if one occurs
    ......and much more!

Don’t leave your family and friends unprotected during the High Holidays. Check to see if your temple has this life-saving toolkit. If not, download a printer-friendly version here.

In order to continue offering valuable resources such as this at no cost, we need your support. Please contribute to ADL and help us to keep all of America’s synagogues safe.
